wealth and power are absolutely terrified because they know the broader path out of authoritarianism involves genuine progressive populist reform, not reheated corporatist centrism

I admit I don't fully understand why the establishment is so freaked out by the prospect of a Zohran victory.

they're leveraging racism, and some of them are undeniably racist, but their real worry remains loss of wealth and power, and they'd be doing sleazy shit to a progressive reformer even if his name was Whitey McBlandon. The racism is just an added bonus for them.

a period of some meaningful good faith progressive populist reform is the only viable path out of fascism, and the dem gerontocracy knows this. The old coots would rather support a serial sexual harasser than risk a fractional erosion of their own wealth and power.

we will not make our way out of authoritarianism without a massive rebuild of the democratic party and the pressure needs to be utterly relentless or we are genuinely lost

They should also know that eventually, the people using their money and influence will want it all for themselves. When the middle class runs out of money, this administration will turn on them.

That’s 100% what’s slowing this down. They have all the resources to help with a general strike, but won’t. They are clinging to their STUFF over PEOPLE. They’re how we got here in the first place. What do they think’s going to happen when this all collapses? And it most certainly will.

And they never really understood the point of Obama’s line about how he was standing between the oligarchs and the pitchforks. They can allow incremental FDR-like progress, or they can enable the next Robespierre with their selfish intransigence.

it's the purest distillation I can make of what they're selling the abundance stuff really is an effort to pretend this is interesting and popular

Exactly - and it is a pure distillation which is why it’s powerful. “Genuine progressive populist reform” is a great description of what is needed - and it’s important to reshape those terms in folks’ minds away from the mainstream disparagement and into what they really stand for…

As someone who has paid attention to the issue ever since living in the Muslim world in the 1990s, it is also very much compounded by the American establishment’s Islamophobia. The reaction of even some Democrats to Biden’s nomination of Adeel Mangi to the 3rd Circuit was shameful.
