as predicted! There will be literally no point in anyone installing UE6 I would say "unless they roll back the AI and Verse shit", but that's the whole thing. We're only 8 versions into UE5, UE4 got to 27. UE6 is illegitimate, it's not anything *but* a product of ai psychosis

In like an hour and a half the State Of Unreal thing is going to happen. It will have some cool stuff and some dogshit stuff that totally dwarfs the cool stuff. Someone will say really stupid shit about AI, the "metaverse", UEFN, plans to make the world worse will be announced... avert your eyes tbh

To highlight one of the "cool things" on there - the new version control system they announced seems like actually could be decent (and is independent of UE) Git kinda sucks for binary assets, perforce kinda sucks with how it's a bit unwieldy at times, lore (the new thing) claims to address that

It’s the logical next (shitty) step for the capitalist growth machine. You can grow by selling more licenses and support seats to devs but that’s slow. So you go after Roblox and sell stuff to a potential audience 100x bigger than the pro market. Even if it means sacrificing that market to pivot

One of the most annoying things is Verse is not bad, good in fact. Finally having a more accessible code language than C++ like Godotscript is to Godot is big but what the fuck are they thinking removing Blueprints? Actually insane shit

Also it's annoying that the AI shit in UE6 might not be so bad because it does seem like you can just avoid it easily enough thankfully from looking at the videos but it really erodes what little faith remains that the whole engine isn't just entirely vibe coded crap

Any text-based scripting would have fit the bill. If they had moved to Lua, Python, AngelScript... hell, made their own that wasn't a massive research project taking 5+ years with questions still unanswered about basic feasibility and performance.

I hate Verse not because of anything wrong with it. Hell, they have some interesting ideas with transactions and all that. But I don't want to use an experimental research project, I want to use something that helps me ship.
