The "zionism is racism" motion that has just passed on the Green Party's conference floor is truly gross, and deeply racist. The party's MPs deserve some credit for opposing it, though they should've done so more stridently and sooner. This is now a millstone around the party's necks. Deservedly.

You can easily oppose the barbaric war crimes of the current Israeli government without backing this racist motion, which also takes away agency and the right of self-determination from everyone in the region, regardless of faith and background.

This was the Greens chance to push back against the extreme antisemitic entryism into their party over the last year. They missed it entirely. What happens next in the party is likely to be very grim, indeed.

Pretty dark day for the party when the motion looks set to pass despite opposition from MPs and former leaders practically begging not to do this. Crank takeover is complete and the party is lost for now.

That is extreme however zionism is still a bad idea. This is not going to deter, frankly racist, settlers in the West Bank for example.
