He's a journalist. He reports the news including quotes from experts. In the same way as most science is reported. Or most engineering is reported. Here is an article about structural faults in a bridge. I wonder if the article was written by a structural engineer?

Why are you shocked? Are his articles about the vulnerability miles off the mark or something? I imagine you have reported on lots of things where you are able to report but you couldn't be an expert. It is how journalism works. I am confused why his honesty is upsetting people.
