Hey, @ign.com Why do you think Rockstar can get this kind of rating and the game sells with no issues, but independent artists and creators are fighting for their lives to be able to?

I can't wait for GTA6 to be how we find out we've unironically entered the era where characters holding hands is considered a "sexual fetish scene" by the lunatics who decide what non-violent content is inappropriate for children. Seriously though what's the bet it's like mild BSDM or something.

👓: Surely the banking services like Mastercard and Visa will be up in arms over this behavior like they were with smaller independent artists making their own wares, right? Because we're operating under the same rules, RIGHT???

If it's like other GTA games then you can also choose not to snort cocaine and decapitate people. Somehow that never enters these arguments.

Agreeing with what everyone else is saying about the payment processor double standard here, but also what fetishes is an AAA game from Rockstar going to have? I feel like it's going to be so plain and bland. Modders will be working over time though ideally maybe don't buy this game at all tbh. 😂

No way! A GTA game got an M rating?? What in the world? This is shocking and disturbing news. I can't believe a GTA game would get rated for 18 year olds given their historic ratings! Wow. Are you sure you got this correct? Rated M? For mature? In GTA? Wow!

Ratings boards are usually very averse to letting the player partake in drugs, so having them be interactive and up to player prompt IS rare. Also a bit hypocritical because they wouldn't let other games do it (Fallout had to rename morphine into Med-X because of it) but hey! Double standards.

Keep in perspective, though, that Rockstar won't in any way be penalized for this. LGBTQ+ writers, artists, and game designers are being banned from places like Itchio and Patreon, by payment processors like MasterCard and PayPal, for depicting "hugging," "kissing," and "plus-sized figures."

They aren't... because the website refused to comply. And the payment processor did not, I maintain, expect them to comply, they just clearly thought an impossible-to-comply-with demand would make a good pretext for shutting down a majortity-queer community.

You may not be a furry or a part of that community, but you'd be surprised how far these people will go to silence "adult" content and websites... bsky.app/profile/dagg...

FurAffinity (a furry focused online art gallery) is looking for funding after refusing to comply with advertiser demands. And oh boy are some of those advertiser demands pretty ridiculous. (alt text added)

So Rockstar gets to trivialize decapitation, beating sex workers, and using hard drugs to anyone with access to someone's credit card, and I can't sell leather fetish gear to consenting adults because it's morally reprehensible and might hypothetically in some way be witnessed by someone underage.

They wouldn't let me buy Grove dev's kinky dragon computer game because that might harm someone, but didn't have any issue when I went to buy a silencer for my sniper rifle.

An aside: I believe it's important for people, especially minorities who do not benefit from the full protection of the law, to keep, maintain, and train with modern combat firearms. But it does not change the fact that guns have been used to harm *dramatically* more children than porn.

Let's not mince words, this is not about protecting children, it's about attempting to exclude the LGBTQ+ community from society by eliminating all representation and exchange of ideas, products, and services.

Kinda crazy how GTA allows players to murder prostitutes without consequence but advertisers pulled their spending with FurAffinity because (checks notes) some of the hosted illustrations depicted *fat* characters.
