people’s main problem with Dario is that he’s a weirdo, and yeah, i get that. That’s what i like about him

My problem isn’t that he’s a weirdo, it’s that the words coming out of his mouth are totally inconsistent with the actions of the company. Someone described it as “screaming that the car is headed towards a cliff while slamming the accelerator” and I think that absolutely nails it.

He's an incredibly intelligent guy and a real thinker, which is my kind of person. But the danger is that very intelligent thinkers can rationalize almost anything. Seems like his mindset is "We have to win, even at some great cost, because we're the only ones worthy to wield this power."

I think he expresses such thinking most clearly when talking about China. The good guys need to do it and win as otherwise the bad guys will. The obvious problem is that given everything going on in the US these days, including increasing state control on AI models, good vs. bad is as clear as mud.

...and under his worldview, Chinese AI is piggybacking off Anthropic so by his own standards, he's actually making that situation *worse*.

He has expressed many worries about China, which sounds like typical MAGA stuff to me. Like worries about "extremely rapid advances in science and technology" in China and how that can lead to military applications. So all progress in China is bad, good in the US. I have a problem with that.
