I watched a UK ‘police interceptors’ prog the other day. They investigated a report that someone had a gun (he didn’t, phew) and then someone else caught selling a gun. Seller and buyer arrested firmly but no force. Such a different culture here (plenty of problems though!).

If one such incident happened in a European country it'd be headline news for at least week, be discussed in that country's parliament and be regarded as a national trauma referenced for decades. In the US it's just another everyday mass shooting, shocking how it's become so expected and normalized.

America’s taste for violence has been cultured by our elites [or ‘rulers’] and chattel slavery in our past and everything since. Blood lust is extra useful on force projection missions, where the mechanized killing still must be performed by stimulated people in military aircraft.

When u have a government, our government, committing mass shootings then it’s a top down characteristic of our society. Our leaders are violent. Our leaders teach us that violence is a necessity. US adults accept violence as acceptable per the 2nd amendment. Therefore our youth are violent.

What a surprise that a nation whose wealth and pride are built on violence and oppression (southern slavery, ethnic cleansing of native people, etc) rallies around one more bloodlust orgy.

Yes, it's a culture of violence with guns everywhere. It's been brought to it's height by the sick sociopaths now in charge of our government. They delight in, enshrine, and promote violence and hatred. It's a style of governance by them.

When I was doing research on retirement spots in South America, it became clear that the "new world" was bathed in violence. Colonial genocide. Slavery. Religious justifications for both.

I find it wild, even reprehensible, that the US keeps going in circles about what the cause is or isn't. Always the same parties. Always the same non-constructive arguments. Always about money in the end. Since when are guns more important than the lives they're supposed to protect?

It's not about any one single cause. Yes, it is still about mental health. It is also about the culture of violence. It is also about the prevalence of guns. Dismissing any of the causes as "it's not about X" is doing it a disservice.

Violence seems to be the one category where the US can legitimately claim to be leading the civilised world…certainly not life expectancy, education, housing, etc etc

America has always been a capitalist country first and a democracy (at best) a distant second. What you're living right now is the law of supply and demand applied to human life. We are surplus to requirements and thus expendable.

We need more laws because some people aren't obeying current laws - especially those who are already criminals.😏

I do think mental health is an important factor, which is something else we could work to improve on if we were serious about not killing kids. And women.
