A little early Christmas present from work. I was due for a machine refresh and a new 15” Surface with a 12core Snapdragon X1E80100 ARM64 CPU, 64GB RAM and 1TB SSD was delivered today. All set up now, and I’m excited to see how the battery holds up through a day in the office when I go back in Jan.

I’ve had a Surface Pro 7 arm64 for ~6 months and love it. There are a few issues like building docker containers for more prevalent amd64 is a PITA and cross-compiling to amd64 in WSL presented some issues because a lot daemons and tools assume cross-compiling to a64 on amd64, but it’s improving.

Battery life is about the same as my personal MacBook Pro M4 Pro. I can lounge on the couch and build rust all day long (and it’s not the most efficient compiler) and still have battery life to spare.
