the rosetta stone of aaron sorkin is that his breakthrough was a play about abuses at guantanamo bay a decade before regular people knew what that was; but it was about abuses towards US soldiers lol

The best things he's written/created are basically: 1. "WHAT IF POTUS WAS SINGLE AND READY TO MINGLE??" (The American President) 2. "MAN, THOSE GUYS AT SPORTS CENTER ARE SO KEWL." (Sports Night) Everything else? Horrible or middling.

I think it would have been right around the time there was a major Haitian refugee deportation crisis when Guantanamo Bay became a concentration camp, there was a (meh) X-Files episode inspired by it too. But Sorkin wasn’t interested in that either.

Not to defend Sorkin or anything, but A Few Good Men is based on a real life incident that occurred in 1986, and the play came out in '89. Wikipedia says the Haitian refugee crisis started in '91 (though that could be wrong).

I think the detention center was a bush jr idea anyhow, in the previous years it was just a military base with dubious claims to legality on the soil of a hostile country

My personal Sorkin stone is with the foreknowledge that he writes dialogue by arguing with shower bottles and his suave male characters are all self inserts - the scene where John Newsroom tells a woman he could rape her regardless if she's carrying a gun or not. Why did you write that Aaron?

I thank my parents that they never forced me to watch The West Wing as a child, so I have no nostalgic attachment to Sorkin's bullshit, and can just sit by on the sidelines going "Is this your man?"
