one of the second order effects of ai in romhacking and modding scenes is it is like a turbocharger for Annoying Guy Ruins The Project For Everyone, that happens to every mod project in human history

Actually I think it’s kind of beautiful anyone can now become that one Fallout: The Frontier dev who leveraged his engine knowledge to turn the NCR quest line into his personal atrociously-convinced 30-hour cinematic epic inspired by the games he played over the weekend.

community projects like these were delicate enough and constantly falling apart with impossible to track drama every five minutes before people had access to the publish hundreds of lines of stolen code a day machine

i think this is gonna be the biggest issue and the hardest to navigate and repair, more than the code itself or many of these being low quality and unmaintained. the general lack of trust. communities even further at everyone's throats than we already were. teams are only gonna get more insular

yeah it sucks. even the good work is like, this isnt SLOP like all the other fucking garbage. which you have to be but i'm just exhausted for romhacking to have become a pvp zone and to have such a profound split and so many previously cool spaces not care

Also the people who are defending these slopcomps to their dying breath aren't even playing the games. If an issue pops up several hours into the game you'll never find out about it because the hype peddlers already got their title screen picture and moved on

I'm not sure what's worse though, that or "a guy wants to make an open world game with an engine from a month after 9/11"

We have successfully created 100s of “The guy who dumped “his own” models ripped straight out of Crisys into your Total Conversion Mod and now you gotta walk away before the C&D letter shows up.’
