fascinating that i just so happened to watch this today which spends a significant amount of time talking about, of all things, kane & lynch 2 bsky.app/profile/maxk...

late to this, but this honestly ain't a bad primer for the cinema literate and video game curious. the beginning takes are respectable if done to death and passing the ball on a few key points, but i was grinning like a demon when kane & lynch 2 came up youtu.be/NP9Dvd4SOBA

i get it. like the games weren't good, don't get me wrong, but despite how derivative they were the 2000s were regularly pumping out New IPs that were at least not surface level embarrassing, you don't get many of those these days

while i do agree with this i do have to say that army of two is definitely surface level embarrassing. generally though yes publishers did actually put out video games

i think in a vacuum maybe but compare it to the way concord or forspoken or highguard were marketed and it's like. yeah i get it even if i dont agree with the sentiment that these games were anything more than bargain bin garbage lol

Army of Two is one of those franchises that had some intriguing ideas for the overused (at the time) coop cover shooter genre but it had some of the shittiest execution and marketing. It's easy to see why it never fully took off, but still had an appealing core somewhere deep within it.

That game was a proud 6.5 and it was ugly and poorly voice acted and janky. The couch co-op experience was fantastic for all of those reasons. The shitty forced Sixaxis implementation! The horrible dam mission! Ahh, memories~

my sister and I played through that. we made entire sentences out of only saying bro and yolo and gold plated our guns. if there was plot we missed it

That was EA's orders, but Lair of the Shadow Broker, Arrival, Citadel, the corpherius DA 2 stuff, Shake in DA:O.

On a genuine note, still baffled me when I played it earlier this year knowing it was the same studio behind TimeSplitters and Second Sight. At least some of the dialogue is so laughably bad it's never left my head. "I am a carnivore, a REAL meat eater." Is something I think about once a month.

These were OK. I do admittedly miss cooperative shooters that were as much about the cooperative part as they were the shooting. All you really get now is live service slop

What i hate the most about the "I miss when gaming was good" is that, they talk about it, WHEN PLAYING SAID GOOD GAMES, YOU ALREADY HAVE THE GAME, JUST PLAY IT AND BE HAPPY! WHAT ELSE YOU WANT? A SEQUEL THAT'S THE EXACT SAME THING? CALL OF DUTY HAS YOU COVERED ALREADY THEN!

Spent a lot of time trying to convince my xbox friends to play WoW with me after playing this with them because "it's the same, one of you tanks and one of you does dps." Never worked out

My friend's dad rented this when we were in middle school and told his mom it was rated T for Teen. Then we played it for about six minutes before someone said "fuck" and his mom made us turn it off.

lmao "things I enjoyed as a child" is so easily confused for "things that are very good" which if they knew better they'd know that ACTUALLY the things I enjoyed as a child are very good, because it was the SNES/ps1 era. better luck being born in time to enjoy super metroid, kids!

It might not be a great game, it's mediocre in everything, but it's also solidly made and a fun romp to play with your friend if you both enjoy militaristic cockwaffling, aesthetics and are somewhat versed in that culture. Which I do.

Kinda wild that we had a game series about two white American PMCs who wear novelty masks just war-criming their way across the world and we were all in agreement that they were the good guys.

Even as a shitty high schooler the fact that the game made racist suicide bomber depictions a frequent enemy was stomach-churning.

I watched a video of 2 people playing it and it seems fun if only because you can make them do stupid guitar noises at random moments

I mean the Army of Two sequel was fine but one of the funniest Army of Two "reviews" I read when it came out was from a review blog that called the game gay anti-religuous propaganda hidding in the shooter genre. Nah dude it was a mid at best grey cover shooter in a time infested with the things.

The average zoomer has only played one shooter in their life, and it’s Fortnite, which has some of the worst gun feel in the history of video games. Next to that basically anything is going to feel like Quake 2

it and the 40th day were the GAYEST games you could get for the 360 and I'm sad they actually cut the 'hit the interact button 400 times to make Salem and Rios kiss' easter egg

They’re okay games, Wish more games did what the do with the guns. You wanna put a dragon barrel on a lmg? Sure! Wanna make that thing have no stock at all? Go right ahead! You could make some wacky guns and it was a fun system. :)

a friend and i stayed up an entire week of summer to get all the achievements in army of two, yet it's so completely forgettable i recall nothing from the game except the fission mailed achievement.
