earthbound is one of those overplayed, overhyped and oversaturated classics that you play and realise it's actually underrated

The first couple times I tried it i fell off bc the early game is really difficult, but once I knew to grind a few levels to be able to survive until you get other party members, it was quite a beautiful experience

The Mani Mani statue as a recurrent metaphorical object is fascinating in retrospect. It doesn't even -do- anything but enable the weak hearted and their worst proclivities with illusions.

The statue itself being the manifestation of evil as "Ness's Nightmare" is a level of eloquence in narrative and story telling that is so subtle and so incredibly profound.

mother 3 is actually overrated but thats not really its fault it never got to be a normal game here so its this mythical lost object that nintendo kept from us. its still great tho just not quite as good as earthbound imo

Its the greatest fan translation that tends to suddenly never exist when it comes to fans either constantly begging Nintendo to localise it or constantly copium huffing that it'll be shown at the next Direct

the mechanic where your health goes down bit by bit instead of all at once meaning you can save yourself from one hit kills was a stroke of genius and i have no idea why it isn't done in the majority of rpgs

relatedly it's sad that Mother 1 is never going to get the respect it deserves in the US, because to most people it's just going to be the janky NES prequel Nintendo sat on for two decades before giving any kind of official Western release

Mother 1 is such a unique and fantastical game for its time, but its unfortunately overshadowed due to how unapproachable it can be in comparison to 2/3. it's my favorite game of all time but i see how the hiccups of the game can drive people away.. thats why i always recommend using fan patches 😎

The entire atmosphere of the original game is just different. Like it IS silly but it's also really creepy and unnerving most of the time. The only real downside to me is the obvious lack of play testing because some of those dungeons are absurdly hard. I'm just gonna spam 4D slip lmao

i sometimes forget that theres just an entire town filled with abandoned kids, and there's another town completely deserted cuz it was overrun by monsters so everyone is living outdoors. it feels like a playable goosebumps story to me sometimes
