strongly disagree with it being a minor thing. its actually a major advancement in cost and capability for a not insignificant portion of what people are doing with LLMs today. the hype is there for a reason.

Jev may have its (narrow) use cases but the hype you see around is the perfect representation of the fact the greatest part of the AI bubble don't know what is important and what is not. Jev is a minor thing happening on AI compared to all the rest, yet the hype exploded.

when you can dramatically reduce both cost and latency of results from models, you can unlock a _lot_ of user-facing outcomes that just wouldn't be possible with current LLMs without ruining user experience

i'm kinda torn on it honestly on one hand it's a very cool generic model on the other hand a lot of classification tasks are very specific and there are better specific models for it still cool though as it encourages experimentation

that is true, but there's a lot of cost that comes with both training and running classification models, especially at scale. but its also not just for classification tbqh!

yeah good point, saw it mainly be used for classification tasks though, that's why i focused on it excited to watch that area of models to see how it develops!

yea def. i also thought it was just for classification from the stuff i saw at first, but watching some of the content their eng is putting out i was like "ohhhhhhhh, fuck yea" haha. its all very confusing because the AI information environment is dogshit 😭
