Stores like Steam are crowded and a good game can stay invisible. Five studios built audiences by posting raw, unfinished work long before launch. 5 lessons from their devlog habits: 👇

️⃣ You can validate a game with devlog clips before building the full game. Pounce Light posted prototype castle builder videos to TikTok, found strangers wanted it, and grew a 25k newsletter from early clips.

️⃣ A devlog can take any format as long as it shows active progress. ConcernedApe wrote essays, Pounce Light posted videos, Landfall shared GIFs, Coffee Stain streamed, Motion Twin used patch notes.

️⃣ Explaining schedule shifts in public keeps a project alive during quiet months. ConcernedApe used dev updates to say why a date moved, so a silent period did not read as the game being abandoned.

️⃣ An incomplete but playable build can serve as the devlog itself. Motion Twin put Dead Cells in Early Access at 30-40% complete, then used Steam posts to show new weapons and shape plans from feedback.

️⃣ Recut the clips that already worked into your launch trailer. Pounce Light edited their announcement from TikTok footage that hit 21 million views, turning proven interest into 26k wishlists in two days.
