Woke up to a bunch of new followers so it might be worth reintroducing myself: My name is Kovi (pronounced like ☕️) and I'm an #astrophysics PhD candidate with a passion for #science communication. I search the skies with radio #telescopes to find and study weird (and often exploding) stuff 📡🌌

A bit more about my background: I was born and raised in Melbourne but spent several years living in Israel, where I got my #physics BSc and met my partner (not pictured). Back in Australia I'm based at @sydneyuni.bsky.social working on finding interesting astrophysical objects. 🌌🔭🦘

Most of my research is focused on studying flaring #stars and #supernovae explosions with #radio telescopes. You can check out this thread i made during a recent observation with the @csiro.bsky.social's #ATCA if you're interested in learning more 📡 📡 📡 📡 📡 📡 🌞 bsky.app/profile/funf...

Outside of being a massive nerd, I love getting out and being in #nature and exploring the natural & #humanmade #history of our #planet 🌏 I've been fortunate enough to travel to some incredible places 🙏

But also LITERALLY anything #space related has a direct line to my heart 🤩 A couple of years ago my friends surprised me for my birthday with a bunch space-themed gifts (and a bunch more gin 😉) I couldn't stop smiling for days!

I've also come to realise that I'm bit of a #SensationSeeker and I've developed a love for new unique experiences that allow us to feel sensations that we don't normally feel; like #scubadiving, #skydiving, and watching total solar #eclipses

Learning things like this about myself have been an important part of my #MentalHealth journey And being open to conversations abound topics like #ADHD and #depression has helped me learn that there's nothing wrong with #neurodiversity and that there's no such thing as normal

On the flip side I'm a pretty goofy guy in general so try not to take my #memes / #GIFs too seriously 🤡 The whole point of this platform for me is to #communicate #science and make it accessible for as many people as possible. Sometimes #humour is incredibly useful for that!
