Curious with how achievable it would be to adapt to other consoles such as the Wonderswan Color and the SwanCrystal. I've been reversing the Crystal so it's top of mind for me right now. IPS available on Ali etc but appreciate the open source approach.

I had a look at some low-res photos of the PCBs of the WonderSwan, WS Color, and SwanCrystal. At first glance, I couldn't find much information about the display signals in particular, apart from what is available from the aforementioned consolizer projects, as mentioned by @asie.pl.

From what I can see, it looks like we have digital signaling on all of the consoles (it doesn't look like analog RGB). From my point of view, it would be worth tinkering around with the consoles and writing some documentation about the signals and signal levels.

There’s also a good chance that the Open xGB Display could be adapted for the WSx. Maybe an additional buffer is required for the parallel columns, along with a level shifter for the signals.

Unfortunately, the WS line of devices is quite expensive on eBay. If anyone has one lying around with a broken display and wants to and is willing to donate it to science, I’d be happy to probe the signals. But please don't expect me to get to this quickly.

I've had luck getting donor boards for reverse engineering but those have largely been corroded and not working. I did get a working Color and just got an "affordable" Crystal from Japan, sold as defective, that I since repaired anyway. I'll keep an eye out for you. Where about are you located?

PulseView with an STM32 or a PiPico should do the job. I'm located in Germany. Is there a specific model in the lineup (original, color, crystal) where you'd say this is the best one to start with? btw, I joined the WS Discord, maybe this makes communication easier.

I'd say the Color is the most versatile solution for the most people, which sadly isn't the one I'm personally as interested in as I went do the Crystal rabbit hole after acquiring 2 very corroded boards😅 I'm all but finished reversing the Crystal and potentially about to begin on the Color tho.

Also, I have much better photos I can send you plus,if it helps the current schematics for the Crystal (currently in a non-public repo) I was getting curious about probing and trying to understand the Crystal's screen signals to complete the schematics which is kind of what lead me to your work :)

pretty sure I can do a rough job cobbling together an stm32 as a logic analyser and a fpc breakout board or 2. If there's an easy or useful way to share the recorded data with you I can do that too.
