if you know me, i don’t get mad. but i did get mad once. i slammed the door on someone at work. i was cto, the eng team reported to me and we hired a professional manager to help out (wasn’t my idea). he said he needed the devs to report to him. i asked why. 1/3

he said .. i need to have the power to fire people for them to respect me. every team i ever "managed", im the fucking lucky one to have people who actually wanted to help me get shit done. that’s how you should think, not how you can extract shareholder value. 2/3

hah i was not fishing for compliments but thank you. rather there are so many people like that, some smart enough to hide it better - and it pisses me off. remember if you love your company, but don’t like this one guy , well , guess who hired him.

Well and that's just the thing. When _that_ guy starts being a jackass, everybody in the trenches basically has to just tolerate it unless someone with rank does something about it. More often than not, they don't; they make excuses for it, say their hands are tied, etc. So good on you.

That's my experience anyways. I spent 15 years contracting and got to see a _lot_ of dysfunction lol. And a good number of companies that were a pleasure to work at too, of course. Could very well be that freelancing may bias towards dysfunctional companies.

if you disagree, that’s fine. we’re probably not friends to begin with. 3/3
