Tired of misleading cookie banners? The EU Commission has finally proposed a solution: set your privacy preferences in the browser once, and never see another banner. EFF joins a number of civil society organizations across Europe fighting to #KillTheCookieBanner killthecookiebanner.eu/

Always thought the obvious solution for this was more transparent cookie management on the client side. Having every website implement its own cookie preferences is a disaster. This is why we shouldn't legislate technical solutions...

They didn't, existing laws are generic. Tracking and functional IDs can be combined by websites to prevent them working at all if a browser tries to block cookies/localstorage/tracking slugs etc. Facebook did this after some browsers started stripping tracking parameters out of URLs.

Good disclaimer at the bottom; "*This proposal for privacy signals is part of an EU law reform called the Digital Omnibus. Most other parts of this reform are problematic and would weaken people’s rights. We want to make clear that we do not support these other aspects of the proposed reform."

Pop up adds especially if they involve motion are so annoying. If I am on my mobile and the article contains them I always close the article. I would rather watch a video before reading the article than this form of advertising. Most of the adverts in this banner/ thumbnail format look like scams!
