Ruin Explorers is such a hidden gem of a series. Both the manga and OVA are of such high quality, I'm surprised more people haven't heard of it. If you're into lighthearted 90s sword & sorcery like Slayers, you absolutely should check it out.

Yessss <3 I picked up an old DVD release of the OVA last year after seeing an ad for it in Dragon Magazine. It's such a fun watch.

"Back off, Bilbo, the ruin explorers are here!" Well, it makes sense why there's an ad for Ruin Explorers in this June 1998 issue of DRAGON MAGAZINE. No dice required for this hot adventure, they say! A series that I can remember almost nothing about. Still, always neat to see earlier ADV stuff.

It was written & illustrated by Kunihiko Tanaka, character designer for Xenoblade/gears/saga, Key the Metal Idol, and a bunch of stuff. Along with Nobuteru Yuuki, in my mind he very much defines that 90s anime fantasy aesthetic.
