How do you manage versioning of the dependencies installed in the VM? Presumably they need to be consistent across dev envs (and somewhat coordinated with prod).

Do you mean for managing language versions? I use asdf for most of them and rustup for Rust. I’m going to look into mise when I’m back from holiday. mise.jdx.dev

I didn’t really write about those in the post but for such things I run docker inside the VM and grab the same version of a service as in prod. I’ve also been contemplating running k8s too but I’m not going for a perfectly identical prod env locally.
