I'm absolutely going to have to check this out and see how it works my next project I was thinking was going to be open world so I was going to have to dig into something like this, and like other terrain plugins.

Looks like a massive leap forward for Godot 3D! I’d like to know if this solution already covers the β€œTexture and Mesh Streaming” feature that’s still on Godot’s roadmap. Would a world as big and as detailed as The Witcher 3 be possible with this add-on?

Thank you! The loading could probably be improved, perhaps ran on a separate thread before being added to the scene, but I've left this synchronous for now. I don't see any reason why you couldn't have a large detailed world. Everything is loaded by local chunks and in batches so should be smooth.

Hi, thanks for replying! I’m not really versed in game development, so I wouldn’t know if this approach and add-on would be considered β€œAAA-certified”. Perhaps AAA veterans could chime in on this. I guess at some point, we really have to stress-test this system to find out how far it can go.

Wow, very interesting work! πŸ‘ I want to add world streaming to my library, too and it's kind of cool to see others. I am curious however, how do you setup this? Is everything (the world) saved in one scene? I wanted to go more maps-like with tiles (xz) and layers (static geo, physics, interactive)

Thank you! I cover this in the video but I basically keep an array of the nodes and their properties which one save/exit I store in an owdb file beside the scene. On load we first remove any previously saved files under OWDB in the scene and then fire up OWDB to load the local ones.

I've just watched the video. The UX is exactly what I wanted to implement. It's almost so good, I'm considering to integrate it. I'll maybe play around with later ^^
