A message for 🇪🇺President @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu and 🇩🇪Chancellor Merz: "You can't support those who set the world on fire and then blame the smoke caused by the fire." In an era where most of Europe's leaders are so spineless, Pedro Sanchez really stands out.

The difference with him is that he cares not about helping Ukraine. The rest of Europe are balancing the security of Ukraine and the rest of Europe. If Trump pulls intelligence sharing, Ukraine and UK are sunk.

He refuses increase defence spending when 71 cents of each dollar spent on EU defence spending goes to the US arms manufacturers. That’s a fact and he’s not playing by Trump’s BS rules anymore. Read up dude.

He is enormously respected by Europeans, and has done more to stand up to the fascism of Israel and the US than any other European leader. His words do help by reminding us of what’s right and wrong.

He has agreed with NATO to increase spending to 2.1% of GDP, and has already achieved 2%, increasing spending by 43% in one year. He HASN'T agreed to Trump's unilateral demand that all NATO countries increase spending to 5% of GDP, which is absurd. Even the US 'only' spends about 3.5% of GDP.

OK, possibly, what damage therefrom? "Spain's willingness to participate in the development of the security guarantee scheme ... Spain's commitment to ... reconstruction efforts ... Spain's support for Ukraine's accession to the EU" - the first are soldiers, the last the most important.

You can count the Australian Government and our Prime minister, Albo in that flock of spineless geese.(no offense to geese)

This, 💯. Same: You cannot send masked armed thugs aiming tear gas and guns at citizens in a peaceful community, and then act surprised that they protest, offer support to their victimized neighbors, and capture your brutality on camera. Same: You cannot say you are pro life and detain toddlers.

European leaders are not truly spineless. They maneuver thoughtfully between the old world and the new. If they were all to follow the Spanish leader, it would amount to recklessness. The truly spineless are found in half of the US electorate and the GOP.

Spain has sent at least a frigate to the gulf to support other NATO vessels. So I don’t know what he is talking about. Pedro Sanchez is a known liar too. Don’t be fooled by his theatrics.

Pedro Sánchez ignited this wonderful chant & now a lot of world leaders are on board with it, it is the only answer to a bully. Merz is doing what he’s doing because he is being pressed by the far right, so it is for his own political survival & not that of Europe nor the world. NO A LA GUERRA !

Spain doesn't want issues with Morocco to avoid problems in the Spanish territories in North Africa (Canary Islands, Ceuta, and Melilla mostly). Morocco would like to have and control those strategic zones.

But..Trump has stated that he won. So why does he need support? Anyway, fuck Trump and those who voted for him. He started this bullshit war. He can damn well deal with it himself. Plus the fact that he's spent the last 12 months or so putting shit on the Europeans. What a weak scumbag.

It’s easy to be brave when you don’t have the weight of nations on your shoulders. Simplistic solutions to complex problems are for populists and, in this case, Trump.

He’s trying very hard to make campaign with these “sound good” speeches that are really hurting Europe. Let’s not forget how poorly he’s managing Spain at the moment…

Poorly? The opposition has to complain about his speeches because his government's economic performance has been brilliant, if we disregard the issue of housing prices that are not completely responsibility of the central government. You just have to look at the statistics and economic indicators

Public debt in Spain surpasses the GDP in 100%, housing costs that is indeed a central government problem, the migration disaster they face and the Okupa problem because of absence of a good law enforcement… Beside that we also have to see the corruption scandals of his close circle.

And yet the far right is rising precipitously in Spain (close to 20% of the expected vote). The 2027 election might well see a right-wing gov't. The "regular" right + the extreme = 55%. That's absolute majority, which in Spain's system means they can pretty much pass any law without opposition.

Being honest is not being spineless. Iran didn't attack Israel . America, and Israel attacked Iran. Our allies see it the same way, and not to mention how Trump disrespected our allies do you think they're quick to come and help us now.

Neither Merz nor Von der Leyen are spineless. Europe has this advantage of speaking by multiple voices. Sanchez is justified to express his position internally. Attempts to use this freedom to divide us only at one's own peril.

theguardian.comA lone battle: Why is Pedro Sánchez the only European leader to take on Trump? As the Spanish PM decries the war in Iran, other politicians are unable – or unwilling – to speak against the US president
