Breaking: it's now official, the pro-EU D66 party came first in the Dutch election. Their best result ever. The National Press Agency has just announced the final vote count. It’s a narrow victory with D66 just 15,155 votes ahead of the far-right PVV of Geert Wilders.

davekeating.substack.comThe most pro-EU party just won big in the Dutch electionD66 had a surprise surge, tripling their seats in yesterday's Netherlands election—and its openly gay leader Rob Jetten is set to become prime minister.

The bigger issue with regard to these elections is that a rising number of the Dutch electorate are voting for parties with radical right wing agendas, young voters in particular. If this trend continues the Dutch will one day end up living under an authoritarian, xenophobic administration.

In fact the proportion of voters who voted for far-right parties went slightly down in this election compared to 2023 - the far right parties will have fewer seats. So for whatever it's worth, the trend stopped rising since 2023.

The supposed centre moved further right. D66 have pledged to break international law on asylum seekers, allowing only those invited in to enter the country. It's just a stepping stone to fascism

What he called for was a change to the UN Refugee Charter as a way of stopping the abuse of the asylum system and unregulated migration. This was the major issue in the election and the reason why the far right is gaining ground all over Europe. So what the NYT is claiming is factually incorrect.

That rather depends on what you define as far right. I would also place the VVD under Yesilgös and the SGP in this category. Add those two parties to PVV, JA21, and FvD then combined they have 67 seats, they only need to get above the 75 seat threshold to have a majority. The clock is ticking…

Agreed and they are all completely in line with the neoliberal economic orthodoxy. The 'social liberal' veneer is trivial for where it matters. In one sense it's hopeless because the Maastricht Treaty's S&GP dictates such orthodoxy.

VVD is not far right. They only voted anti-immigration a few times because they were in government together with PVV. SGP is conservative christian, they won't support the far right.

The VVD under Yezilgöz has moved to the right and adopted the same anti immigrant, anti-Woke rhetoric used by Wilders and the FvD. They want to form a government with them and JA21 which is a split off from those far right parties. They have similar ideologies and use similar negative rhetoric.

Given how GOP have such contempt for #WomensRights Would it shock people if GOP began burning intelligence women. Trump keeps attacking POC and other women he knows are more intelligent than he is. That's NOT his job
