Honestly, everyone in America should experience America like World Cup fans have. Go to places you haven't been, eat the local food, have a blast. This country is huge and most people barely ever see any of it.

The Kansas City sub-Reddit has been getting lovely messages from people who were visiting. I have long said the national service I would make is rural people live and serve urban areas and vice versa. We’d be a better people if we just got to know each other and see the diversity as a plus.

I think what people have been reacting against is the smugness of some Americans who've been acting like every European arriving has never seen the modern world. The US is brilliant, but not because it's better than the rest of the world.

Also the best way to experience it is to drive because seriously if you haven't you do not understand just how gigantic, diverse, and varied the place you live in is.

There was an incredible Tik Tok I saw from a young black girl talking about the cognitive dissonance of feeling so much joy & pride from these videos and also disgust at everything else about the US - if she can sit with both emotions, so can we
