is there a reason it isn't cheaper to just buy whistles? 3d printing can't be the cheapest way to make them.

I bought whistles all last fall. The cheapest I ever got was 10 cents a whistle, but most of the time it was more like 30. I print 800 whistles off a $20 roll of filament, the math is very very clear which is cheaper, not even mentioning volume.

Why do you think fabrication is overall cheaper given that 3d printing cannot benefit from economies of scale?

because we have a distributed network of printers all doing their part and shipping small quantities (100-1000 out across the country). You *could* order 200,000 whistles from China, get them eventually (in weeks-months), then break them up and ship them around, but by that time ICE won.
