so the reason why @furryli.st was down earlier was that the disk was full again. why, you ask? we've accidentally been tracking ~150 million too many likes. these likes are never used for even the like-based Hot feeds algorithm, oops. 😅

Geez, and the likes database doesn’t affect the feed at all? So there’s no way to cut or limit that info?

the likes affect the Hot feeds but i have figured out a way how i can cut them down by around 75%: we don't need to track likes for replies, and we know all posts that we show on the feeds, so we can figure out which to delete programmatically.

I see. Yeah, since it only affects the hot feeds, it’d be really cool to have some kind of automated tool that wipes like-logs after a while. I'm just thinking out loud tho, I’m just an artist who enjoys your feeds, I don’t know shit about programming and how these things works lmao
