Been seeing a lot of "Gemini can't count letters in words" posts lately. AI opinions aside... why is this happening? Like, actually? Wouldn't it be trivial to whip up a skill or MCP or whatever to answer these questions? Genuinely curious.

Best guess: there are too many scenarios like this that manual patching of that sort takes constant effort and something always slips through. Even after they fix this it won't be long before the next one
