A lady recently wrote a book based on this scenario. Civilization destroyed. Her earlier work contemplated a more humdrum global pandemic like the one that started in 2019. What can ya do.

"Onishchenko told the state news agency TASS that the onset of cold weather would likely prevent transmission" Phew...that was a close call everyone. Go back to watching football.

I assume shortly we’ll be hearing “everything is fine and president putin has assured me his administration is taking all necessary precautions to not allow this virus to spread out of the country! Putin is my good friend and I believe him! Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

It is curable with antibiotics - so that's the USA doomed then as we all know medicines that stop plagues, viruses, illnesses are all 'fake', nature does it better......hmmm.

I'm sure someone, somewhere will do a repeat of the 1348 Black Death backlash and blame the Jews. That was the biggest surprise for me in reading about that plague. I mean there's ignorance of what causes disease, and then there's just straight up bias.

Well as humans there is one thing you can say - we are consistent. I wish there was aliens from other planets in the skies above us.... "Please take control over us, we deserve it'

Yeah, that was the shocking part of The Three Body Problem when I first read it. Surely no human would betray the world to aliens? Now, I almost understand why one person from a country devastated by their leader's vicious behavior would do that. "Come and get us; we suck"

There was a reason why that initially happened (though it was subsequently politically exploited, for which there can be no excuse). Jewish people in Europe at that time had much stricter codes of hygiene than their neighbours, so were less likely to get infected, which made others suspicious.

Nope. Everyone was affected, infected by the plague. Some countries wanted a scapegoat so they rounded up some Jews, "put them to the question" (aka tortured them) until they confessed to "poisoning wells". Plague wasn't spread by close crowding (like with flu pandemics). It was rats/fleas

@cnn.com shame on you for this reporting. Also why do we care if Russians die? They are the enemy of the world. Too bad the accident wasn't bigger IMO.

Because it's buried at the bottom of the article and CNN is presenting it in a misleading way: before people worry, the "unknown" part is how the worker was exposed, the pathogen is good old fashioned Y. pestis which we understand extremely well and can treat just fine if caught early
