I've watched about half of this interview with @davidcostello.bsky.social, and I find it mind boggling that he hasn't gotten more traction. He seems to be a decent guy with tons of experience, solid, well thought-out & progressive policy stances, etc. Mainers should check him out. #MEpolitics

Well, the BS-backed oyster farmer has taken all the oxygen out of the room, ofc. And as for progressive bona fides, Costello leads the other candidates by several lengths. I find it interesting how so many self-professed progressives don’t know a real progressive when they see one.

A Platner win is a Collins win. Her oppo cannons are loaded. Service records? 100% disability (Duckworth is 20%)? Etc. Here's a plan: 1) Rank all but Platner. 2) Mills wins. 3) Mills lacks magnetism, momentum, magic, money. 4) Mills drops out. 5) Party names e.g. Costello to replace her.

wow, is that true about Duckworth? I’ve had a doomed feeling for a couple of months there’s gonna be some disability fraud going on here. That will be the final straw. Dude’s a liar & a fraud.

It ain't right, but it is true. Duckworth makes a point of it in her reform efforts. VA ratings, like other disability claim systems, depends less on what's broke and more on how good your lawyer's doctors are ... and how much patience you have for process & paperwork.

As a native Mainer points out, I’m among those who wasn’t remotely familiar with Costello until recently. Apparently this means I was ā€œdisrespectingā€ him somehow, even though I don’t live in Maine and I’m not a campaign or party operative.

Exactly same A Mainer from a family of mainers who have been here before it was Maine and Crickets on this guy. Maine is also a damn small town and I don't even know anyone who knows about him. WTF

I think he also jumped into the race at the last minute? But it's notable that Platner was treated as a serious candidate from the start in spite of...way less experience or qualification than Costello. From before there were any polls showing him in the lead. He was immediately endorsed by electeds

Yeah but does he wear flannel shirts, sharpen his axe in the living room while puffing up about killing and raping people and does he denigrate Democrats?

Costello is a quiet, thoughtful guy with a great deal of valuable experience. Unfortunately he’s not what most people would call ā€œcharismaticā€ and far too many U.S. voters are swayed by candidates who are at the expense of those who aren’t. That’s been a feature of American politics for a long time.

Charles I agree. He seems very substantial. However, his website is poorly written and designed. I'm not in Maine so lack context but I was surprised by this. I love his international experience.

I read his profile last fall and he sounds amazing, is definitely progressive, actually has some experience, boggles the he was overlooked by the anointers

I'm sure he's a really decent guy. So am I. It takes a lot more to win the Senate seat, especially in to today's political environment. You kinda have to be a ruthless stone cold killer. Platner is. Mills may have been once upon a time, but her candidacy did not land. Don't think Costello has it

I suspect it's the "tons of experience" that's the problem. I mean, who needs experts or competence in these days of "I dId mY oWn reSeArch"??? Some people don't have the sense God gave carpet lint.
