@gandersocial.ca I'm very curious about what will be involved in this connection. Will Gander open up to the public Atmosphere, meaning that not just Eurosky but also users on Bluesky, Blacksky, Northsky, W Social, or their own self-hosted PDS will also be able to see and interact with Gander users?

Or will there be some kind of custom connection with Eurosky where Eurosky / Mu has access to your private offline ATProto network? I'm hoping it's the former because I'm a champion of the open social web, but either option sounds interesting. Looking forward to it!

Side note: the former option would also enable Gander users to use their accounts across the rest of the Atmosphere, with apps like @pckt.blog, @leaflet.pub, @sifa.id, etc – which would surely be a great improvement for your users.

It sure would. And we are avidly following a lot of that work. The intention is to be fully interoperable (development started on that this week). We've always designed Gander in such a way that we can introduce interoperability. Most likely it will be a staged process as we sort through things.

There are also a quite a few considerations for us from the sovereignty and moderation side of things -- make sure folks know before they are posting outside of Gander, consuming content we haven't moderated etc. And probably a bunch of both cool and challenging things we haven't thought of yet.

Thanks for the answer! I guess I'm curious how you plan to go about being "partly open" to the Atmosphere from a technical point of view. Once you publish the DIDs to plc.directory and open up the firewall on your PDS, I guess you're open to the world? Anyway I'm excited to see where this goes!

I listened to a couple of podcasts recently with @benwaldman.bsky.social and although they were light on technical details I have to say I love the thoughtful way you guys are approaching this, so I'm looking forward to you being a part of the Atmosphere.
