I always wanted a Vectrex as a kid, but missed the boat. It seemed so cool. So, it was a real delight to meet Jay Smith, 87, creator of the Vectrex. Such a nice guy!! (Could he ever have imagined he'd be doing this show in the year 2026?) We're just two niche gaming consoles with unique screens!

(Many thanks to the really nice folks making the Vectrex Mini — I can't wait to try one of those! — for inviting him to the Portland Retro Gaming Expo. Here he is talking about that project. )

I got the Vectrex for Christmas when I was 8. I LOVED it so much. (I called in every “only child” chit I had to make that gift happen). Maybe one day you will get to meet the 3DO team. That would be a trifecta of groundbreaking game consoles that would be amazing for the world to know more about.

I found one at a flea market like 20 years ago, and it worked, had a few games! I continually kick myself that I got rid of it at some point.
