I think what it has taken people a long time to realize is that the fascist idiot screaming on a street corner and the New York Times columnist are not independent phenomena but rather different endpoints of the same media ecosystem, which Capital operates diffusely as a messaging system.

Not just pundit class — "legitimate" journalists CANNOT STOP centering fascists and racists as the only possible source of narratives.

Right-wing narratives are created through a sort of citogenesis process. You get some number of idiots-on-street-corners to scream about something, and then progressively more "legitimate" pundits escalate this screaming into "concern", then "debate", then "issue", then "crisis".

Just like how there's a radicalization pipeline where people get sucked in by more and more extreme *content,* there's a reverse of that where extreme content gets amplified and legitimized by more and more visible media figures.
