The thing about using chatGPT just as “search” is that 1. Still bad for many reasons 2. Extremely easy to trick yourself into thinking you’re asking a factual question when you’re actually engaging a chatbot for emotional support

As an AI hater, one of the things I concede seems like a decent use case is "tip of the tongue" searches, since you can instantly verify the results. Existing LLMs still have the failure case where they reverse hallucinate and tell you the thing doesn't exist tho.

Yeah, I find that the most reliable way to use LLMs is to get to an actual source as fast as you can. Unfortunately, all of the LLM companies instead want you to stay and talk to the chatbot for as long as possible, indeed in lieu of actually visiting the source it is pulling from.

I'm trying to get better at using AI for search because the traditional keyword search has gotten so much worse in the last few years

And 3. You're removing all critical thinking from a simple question. Question to AI : Is the mushroom edible. Answer: Yes it is. Overview of coffin seen. Answer: You didn't ask whether it was poisonous.
