Worried about the state of games market? Hear me out: I want a Steam Machine Lite, that can cost up to $349 that is LESS powerful than Switch 2, and can become a popular HOME CONSOLE choice that increases the share of voice & market for indie games, rather than being just another platform for GTA6.

It could still offer a HUGE library of great games thad don't need i5 and GF2080s+ to run. If Nvidia Tegra X1 and GM20B with 4GB RAM can run Hades, Dead Cells, and - well - No Man's Sky, it means you can get away with cheap manufacturing and still offer a generous selection of games.

This may seem like a serious technological bottleneck for the devs, but limitation is the mother of creativity. Some of the best-designed games in history ran on a 8-bit core Z80 equivalent clocked at 4.19 MHz (Game Boy) than this means more games relying on great mechanics not eyecandy. Epic win.

Some curation would be needed to make sure the players can easily navigate interesting titles. This would call for similar process as Steam Deck compatibility certification... OR could involve meeting a specific target in the number of reviews and the review score, to outsource it to players.

This would align well with the core value @steampowered.com communicates: making Steam a discovery engine for the players to find more games they're going to love. Many fantastic titles to find for the gamer, and an opportunity for the small devs to cater to a larger userbase. Thoughts?
