Yes, there were certain American Citizens that in blind faith, voted for him twice, helping him get the numbers he needed for the Electoral College. It would have been a different story if the election was based solely off the popular vote. Same thing happened in the UK with Brexit.

American here to reply! You could never trust the USA. We have always been unfaithful and unreliable. You should always have depended on your neighbors and allies. The USA should never have become the world champion and leader and peace keepers. History alone tells you that.

Even worse, as an European, I don't trust Europe anymore either. European politicians (Rutte, von der Leyen) are handing Europe on a plate to Trump (and Putin) and in various European countries the extreme right has been normalized while centre-leftish parties are labelled as extreme left.

Trust in the USA is lost for a LOOOOONG time to come. Repairing and restoring it will take one or *generations*. Yet, we need to be hopeful and work hard to realize that hope. We should not give up. It certainly won't be easy.

Europe doesn't have a choice but to try to assert influence in the US or risk losing the US as an ally for good. Faith and trust don't need to be part of the equation.
