My Windows 11 start menu was unresponsive today, unable to find local apps. I disabled Bing search "feature" and then it started working as expected: Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search" -Name "BingSearchEnabled" -Value 0

Restarting explorer.exe multiple times didn't help, but disabling the Bing web search did, so I can only conclude that Bing web search was at fault

My impression is, the test was "search for local apps in Start menu" and if it takes crazy long time to locate resources then Bing is likely the problem

I've got bitten by this in the past, but somehow forgot to disable it on my new laptop. I didn't figure this out on my own, I saw someone else share the same tip. It's a well-known problem that's been around for years
