Guidance counselors are not financial advisors. Not a single person had any conversation with me about the consequences of these loans. But even if they did I couldn't afford college without them, so what choice did I have?

The average student-counselor ratio in the US is 376:1, and many districts it is far higher. Also, in addition to college advising, they deal with students who are homeless, being abused, in mental health crisis, etc. They do the best they can with limited time and resources.

Outrage! Teaching is the only mandated service in State Education Law. Counseling is optional, despite all the Federal laws, lawsuits, regulatory services and programs.

These dept secs are being allowed to withhold or reallocate funds that were already approved by Congress. That’s against the law, and it’s basically cutting Congress out of governing. Where is the Repub House in all this? They are essentially signing the death warrants of their own livelihoods.

Show us a guidance counselor job description that says anything about investigating fraud at secondary educational institutions? I went to a 5A school with more than 500 students per graduating class. We had one guidance counselor. I met her once for about 15 minutes 🤷‍♀️ What a joke.

Only a few years ago they were saying it wasn't a "gun" problem at schools, it was a "mental health problem in schools" and that we needed more counselors. These people have no clue what they are doing.
