If I rename Jade Empire.iso to Jade Empire.xiso macOS will helpfully rename it to Jade Empire.xiso.iso and turn on 'hide extensions' for that file for me. Thanks Apple! That's exactly what I wanted to happen /s

Now I just have to right click on the file, select Get Info from the popup menu, find the full filename field and change it there. Don't forget to uncheck the Hide Extensions checkbox while you are in there or you'll be going back in again when you notice.

The amount of times I have been caught out by this with drive emulators and finding out that macOS just…didn’t actually apply the filename extension so to any other OS it’s HD.dmg.hda. And of course drive emulators flip out at this.
