The Right is nakedly trying to make it illegal to call them fascists which is about the most obviously fascist thing you could come up with.

It’s hilarious because they all are fascist, and fascists need to pay the ultimate price. Two significant messages have been sent to them over the last few weeks but they haven’t received it

It’s an interesting thought. If you are “Pro Democracy” then naturally you are “Anti-Everything Else” to include Fascism. Embracing “Anything else” not Democracy does mean “You are that”… act like a fascist means in fact you’re a fascist. Knowledge is Power.

His position sends to be that a government run entirely by fascists is not a “fascist government” unless it has fully consolidated power. I think that the worst thing we’ve done in English is conflate fascist ideology with fascist authoritarian government, because it has blinded us to the former.

That's actually a good argument to toss back in their faces because it puts them in a corner. They can't really say "it's illegal to call someone a fascist" w/o having some awareness that that is fascist behavior. It's protected 1st amendment speech, and it also happens to be true in many cases.

No, that wouldn’t work. They don’t understand what fascism is and refuse to learn. It would go like this. A: That’s fascist behavior B: No it isn’t! Calling Trump a fascist is a lie! A: But he meets these historical definitions B: Shut up communist

Probably true, you can’t reason with MAGA. But instead of using “fascist” as a vague label, pointing out that suppression of free speech is fascist, something that they’re doing when saying “you can’t call me fascist”, is a more specific argument. IOW “you are proving my point right now”.

Oh, there are more obviously fascist things. Fascism is not grounded in propaganda like it is in the glorification of violence and the cult of the leaders. Yeah, there’s misinformation, but its not the heart of fascism.

I don’t think we are talking about degrees of fascism. I think we are talking about i) perceptions of fascism and ii) definitions of fascism. I also think we could talk about more German and more Spanish forms, anyway. Yeah, comparatives easily could apply.

If it came to that, with the Supreme Court's ruling on presidential immunity, the *only* recourse is a toothless impeachment because Senate Republicans would never vote to convict.
