The only downside is that people without any creativity are just going to take the mouse and make him evil, which in turn proves to companies that having a death grip on the public domain is the only way for characters to be innocent.

Don't take this as me hating public domain. I don't, it's absolutely necessary and should be rewritten to be more open for creators instead of corporations. I just hate the lazy and creativity bankrupt who ruin it for everyone else.

Is it not the death grip that major corporations have on their characters that contributes to the "lazy and creatively bankrupt" concept of turning them into the antithesis of what said corporations want them to be?

Plus, it's not like *everything* that gets into the public domain gets a horror movie, nor has anyone really been stopped from making twisted parodies of famous characters; them becoming public domain just means creators can charge money to let you see what they did.

it's not being "ruined"! people making art you don't like, or that you don't think is very skillful, or whatever, that's not a problem! you don't have to look at it! and people make bad art outside of public domain works too, so it's something you'll have to deal with regardless
