Sure, I’m aware the protocol is open. I was only wondering if even the server side was open source (or if it’s going to be in the future) just like (only as an example) Mastodon is.

If by “server” you mean PDS, that is part of the atproto repo on github

I mean if I can download some code, install it on my own server, run it and federate with the main instance

Yea, that is the PDS. You can do all of that except federation (it’s coming soon). But, if you clone the atproto repo, you can run your own “server” (PDS). It just won’t federate with us right now but that’s coming soon!
