A perfect poem bringing a journey to life. That last line hit me in the heart.

I like this! 'as the day slides shut' and 'salt-hardened' towns. Great images.

I agree with all that has already been said. I think the last line brings the first line into focus so well, the “you” making it clear why the narrator ran to catch the train. It was so enjoyable to take this ride as a reader.

The prompt said bring the imagery, and you certainly did that! Love the two lines repeating for emphasis *and* purpose.

A beautifully restrained poem in which the railway journey becomes inseparable from longing, memory, and the anticipation of reunion.

This demands something poured neat and peaty.

I love the pace of this and the slight of had of not letting the reader get ahead too quickly hence that last line being so moving, so poignant.
