Like everyone else in this administration, Witkoff is completely unqualified for this job. Even so, he should at least have enough common sense not to trust Putin’s interpreter. I'm sure every one of Putin's statements began with something like, "Tell this shitheaded moron I said ..."

It was a bad idea for Witkoff not to bring a U.S. translator to his meeting with Putin, if the purpose was to negotiate a Ukraine peace. It was a good idea for Witkoff and Trump if the purpose of meeting Putin was to explore "side deals" possible if Trump facilitates Putin's takeover of Ukraine.

this was intentional, it has nothíng to do with unpreparedness. trump did the same when he met with putin in his first term – no american aides or interpreters allowed. no american witnesses to his conversations with putin.

In all candor, Steve Witkoff was probably more comfortable with the Kremlin translator. He probably used him before. Ed Martin probably referred the translator from Russia today. 🤦
