From a recent Fly blog post, advocating AI everything: “I want a world where my friends and family can make computers do exactly what they want, without waiting for me to build everything for them.” A cute sentiment that falls apart on closer inspection. Sometimes this industry is so unserious.

"I just want to have something music-adjacent to play in the background, I don't want to have to wait for some musician to make it" same energy

Exactly. Wrong to assume that everyone even wants to create all types of things, regardless of how supposedly easy it might be.

Reminds me of at one point about how people thought everyone was going to 3d print stuff regularly. I've never started a 3d print myself, but I might have bought something that someone else 3d printed without me knowing.

yeah it's complicated, but that's not very catchy is it? ;) i agree, the code = music analogy doesn't hold universally. not all code is art or an expression of emotional state, or even critical enough to warrant human accountability.

i wish the technology didn't have so many (to me unsolvable) problems, I genuinely want to be more excited about its potential than it and/or the capitalists deploying it are currently letting me.

I realize I sound a bit pessimistic, but thinking about it now, most things like this have a very skewed distribution towards consumption over creation. I can't think of any example where the ratio has changed a lot because of some innovation.
