That's a slippery slope. Because what's next? Giving everyone on the team the same salary? Giving everyone in the stadium the same salary? Building roads across the deserts, and the mountains? Irrigating the deserts and terracing the mountains until there's garden everywhere? And then there will be

Because the players don't want to risk losing their livelihoods (and, possibly, their lives) fighting a quite-likely losing battle against the owners, and because they know if they so much as get caught talking about it they'll be fired and blacklisted. They're gonna have to one day.

Because players are the most mobile component? I'd want them owned by the city or the fan club, that way there is a benefit to the town its based in. The players are too mercenary to have a long enough horizon to benefit the club and its environs.

Because there always needs a useless fat bastard who doesn't do anything besides bring his connections around. Sports teams are less employees and more like property

I think here is a different aspect to it. only "Professional" teams are owned by a person. The adverage "bowling leauge" is owned by the players. They don't produce Profit so there is no demand for them. when there is only a little profit you can earn then you just "sponsor" them instead of owning.
