Many Australians are worried about climate change, but terms like “emissions”, “decarbonisation” and “net zero” can make the problem feel remote and technical. Plain language can restore climate agency, David Hamilton writes. #Climate #Energy #Renewables

pearlsandirritations.comClimate action starts with clearer languageMany Australians are concerned about climate change but do not know how petrol, diesel and gas drive it, because climate language has become too technical, opaque and disconnected from daily life.

Still astounds me that the Federal basic wage in the U.S hasn't been raised since July 2009... 17 years go. Still $7.25 per hour. (In some states $15 or above.) Australia's latest national minimum wage is $26.44 per hour or $1,004.90 per week... as of 1 July 2026.

Jane Hume can piss off. The Australian taxpayer has been subsidising these huge utes to the tune of many millions per annum. Most of these behemoths aren't being used for commercial reasons. They increase road wear and tear, impact air quality, and are dangerous to other road users. More EVs!

Patriot Front came out of their moms’ basements, dusted off the Old Navy khakis, put on the white masks so they don’t get fired from their day jobs, and headed to Washington for America’s 250th birthday celebration. Four hundred self-described patriots, not one ounce of bravery.

Because 'the military' have developed a culturally protected awe within many societies. We don't scrutinise the enormous harms, waste & cost of their weapons, we don't doubt we should use them instead of diplomacy all we're easily manipulated by fear & the sometimes contrived threat of 'them'.

I’m appalled that people thought it smart to boo Welcome to Country ceremonies at Anzac Day dawn services. I especially acknowledge Bunurong elder Mark Brown who welcomed us cartoonists at our conference in St Kilda a few years ago. He is decent, kind man who deserves respect. I am so sorry.

BREAKING: while Donald Trump was recovering from anesthesia for a "routine procedure" at Walter Reed hospital - Antifa thugs broke into his room and performed what staff described as "grossly unnecessary surgery" on the 79 year-old President. #DonaldTrump #WalterReed

If you look closely, you can see signs of GOP lawmakers fearing the long-term political consequences of paying more attention to Trump's demands than to the voices of their own constituents - or consciences.

Here's my primer on Americans: they're weird, and usually think they are the only country in the world.

Merriam-Webster@merriam-webster.com

Here’s a primer on ‘primer.’ It’s pronounced ‘PRIMM-er’ if you mean “a small book” or “a short informative piece of writing.” It’s pronounced ‘PRY-mer’ if you mean “an initial coat of paint.”

RFK Jr. has a new theory on autism. He thinks circumcision could be a factor. It confirms what many of us have suspected for a long time. They genuinely believe their brains are in their dicks.

These people are just not smart

Justin Baragona@justinbaragona.bsky.social

Besides linking Tylenol in pregnant women to autism, RFK Jr. now says circumcision is part of the reason why kids are autistic. "Children who are circumcised early have double the rate of autism, and it's highly likely because they're given Tylenol. None of this is positive..."
