it has been claimed that bluesky pbc is too afraid to put pronounce on profile lest they appear too WOKE to the us admin who obviously has total power over them and total power over the network as pbc has total power over the network

this is the same about posting anything here btw. if you want to protect your users from queriability you should probably just take bluesky down and give up on atproto

Consider why you might not want a company that is subject to the laws of the countries in which it operates to be able to directly query the pronouns of its userbase. And you can always use a profile link pronoun.is

cope is a bluesky client (social-app fork) that works. the anti-user features are patched out, and a lot of pro-user features are patched in, including - nuclear block bypass - pronouns - settings sync - ai alt text - js filters for "more powerful mute"

and honestly english and french both suck regarding how they got there but english has won and french should give up

even if this was open source and good, using atproto identities for e2ee comms is a horrible idea when they’re practically completely controllable by pbc. use signal.

"E2EE" DMs via an iOS-only closed source phone app Atproto desperately needs *real* secure DMs, but this sort of thing is a sick joke at the expense of users gullible enough to fall for it

"real deletion" is sending a one time event to the firehose that appviews that launch after that point have no way of knowing happened rather than deleting the identity though lol

bryan newbold@bnewbold.net

I suspect another aspect to some of these situations is that many folks are accustomed to account "deletion" being more like "deep hibernation"; while PDS actually just does real deletion. this isn't everybody, or the main issues, but it does surprise a fraction of people
