Actually the app tells you how many people are on the ranking list for rapid chess: 57,711,960. There are also 24 million for blitz and 15 million for bullet time controls.

PS: today is the first time I looked up the ranking. Had no idea before the comic.

I’m still waiting to find out what literally ‘random moves’ gets ranked as.

Very wholesome

Anything with several millions registered users must have a great many idle accounts. I imagine winning a single game will advance a player past a couple million who have never done so.

Don’t worry, I would rank lower than you if I were registered.

I recently started playing a game that offers global rankings, and I'm ranked like 42000th or something, but they don't tell you how many players there are, so I don't know how bad (or good) I am.

Some nerd really "well acktchually'd" the number of accounts on the website 🤦🏽
