You wouldn’t think it’d be possible for Apple Maps to get worse. Apple found a way in iOS 27. Now, Apple Maps RESETS any directions it was doing when CarPlay starts. Looked a thing up and then got to your car? Route deleted entirely. You have to search again.

To be clear: Apple Maps has deleted the contents of whatever you were looking at on the phone when launching CarPlay, so you had to make sure to hit “go” before starting your car. Now, it ALSO deletes any active route and swaps it out with a “Siri suggestion.”

Your previous route won’t be a “recent search” because that’s been broken garbage for ages leaving you to try and search again which for whatever reason didn’t work either. So I gave up and launched Google Maps, which.. just worked. The first time.
