The US will never be a reliable partner again. Trump has destroyed decades of engagement and partnership. Countries must begin to adapt to a world where the US is irrelevant.

Canada historically had a strong transatlantic link to Britain and its empire as a safety net against US economic and diplomatic fuckery. Now that the British Empire has gone, the most rational transatlantic link / safety net is the EU. Looking east is Canada's second nature.
